About

I’m Kathy also known as Kanning Kathy. I am a connoisseur of all things delicious. From ginger peach jams, flavored salts, margarita cupcakes, my passion is to create treats from my kitchen.  Many of my creations have received ribbons and awards in local and regional competitions.

When I am not in my kitchen working on new recipes, you can find me at the weekly, local Farmer’s Market. It is incredibly important to know where our foods comes from, so I spend a lot of time getting to know and working closely with my farmers. They are a wealth of information and often help to inspire my new recipes.

Not only do I love sharing the treats I make but also the skills I’ve learned in the kitchen. I teach canning, baking and cooking classes to anyone from my local 4H chapter to my grandchildren.

I owe this business to my family. They championed the idea. They held the vision and saw the potential even when I couldn't. My son opened the world of horticulture to me through his passion for plants and trees. He was interested in farmers markets and fresh food from local farms long before me. His passion sparked my interest and inspired the basis for Kanning Kathy's philosophy.

With encouragement, support and a bit of stubborn insistence from my family, I started my business, Kanning Kathy and what a wonderful journey it has been so far.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INGREDIENTS?

The produce used in my products are locally sourced from growers within a hundred mile radius of my kitchen in Roseville, Ca. I work closely with my suppliers to make certain that when you enjoy one of my products you are getting the best and the freshest of ingredients.

WHAT IS PECTIN AND WHY IS IT USED?

Pectin is a starch that occurs naturally in the cell walls of fruits and vegetables. When cooked at a high temperature in combination with acid and sugar, it forms a gel. This is what gives jams and jellies their consistency when they cool. Pectin can be used in other dishes that require food to gel or thicken. It's also used as a fat substitute in some baked goods.

CAN I STOCK YOUR PRODUCTS?

I am a big fan of brick and mortar stores. So I would love to partner up with you. I am currently stocked in three local mom-and-pop shops, let's make you the fourth! Contact me directly at kanningkathy@gmail.com.
